It can be difficult to stay cool and enjoy yourself during the warmer summer months.
The heat can have an effect on your mood and temper.
There is a lot we can do to stay cool and balanced.
The Summer Season is the Pitta Season - hot and fiery.
Many of us deeply enjoy this season as the days are longer, the sun brightens our mood and we are naturally more outside.
But if it is getting too hot or you are already a bit more on the 'hot side' ( Pitta Dosha ) you might want to take extra care of yourself during this time to stay balanced.
It is important to adjust your lifestyle in a way that doesn't create even more heat inside of you. Otherwise, you might feel overwhelmed, moody, and simply overheated.
In Summer it is usually easier to wake up earlier.
Take advantage of the vibrating energy and start developing a morning routine.
Begin your day with a lymph draining and energizing Facial and Body Massage (Abhyanga) using Coconut oil which has cooling properties. In case oiling your face starts to feel heavy during the summer use a light water-based moisturizer during the day including Aloe Vera
Journal in the morning to gain clarity on how you feel and where you can do less to stay extra calm in the heat
Use the early morning hours to do some movement and exercises that you rather want to avoid in the warmer hours of the day.
Get the really important tasks done in the first hours of the day and therefore enjoy a nap during midday - Siesta!
If you feel swollen or puffy from the heat
Do a facial lymph drain massage
Use a cold spoon & place it a few moments under the eyes
Rosewater - calms, and tones
Cucumber - heals and hydrates, slice underneath the eyes
Green tea ice cubes + well wrapped up, gently tap on the under-eye area ***
Drinks & Food
I drink cooling herbal teas and grow 4 different mint flavors on my kitchen balcony - simply delicious!
Fresh mint tea and chamomile have a cooling effect
Avoid ice-cold water - which is always a fight with my daughter - but mummy knows better. The body starts all the heating programs as soon as cold water, and yes, ice cream enters your belly!
Enjoy all your drinks in room temperature
Our favorite summer recipe to stay fresh and hydrated:
We are having water ( simply out of the tap- no plastic - no carrying bottles 🤗) with lemon, ginger, cucumber, mint, and orange.
Fruits to prefer in the hot season:
Apricots, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, plums, raspberries, strawberries, nectarines
Perfect time for Smoothies
Mother Nature is so super smart! She provides us exactly with the food we need now.
Beetroot, cucumber, peppers, radishes, courgettes, endives and beans
Maybe you already, as I do right now, feel like eating lighter and maybe even less.
Listen to your body and never force it to eat.
Stay in your Flow:
Notice if it feels better to you doing yoga over running, or any other intense sports.
It is great to practice:
Yoga early in the morning or later in the evening
Do some legs up against the wall
Cooling breathing practices like Shitali

agitated and impatient, maybe even annoyed.
Then your Pitta, which governs our internal fire might be dominant.
Allow and give yourself enough time to rest and pause.
Avoid operative foods like chilies, excessive garlic, and onions, coffee, and alcohol
Eat more: Cool, refreshing foods like watermelon and cucumber
