HOW TO EAT HEALTHY

Updated: Jul 10, 2020

Taking good care of yourself, your body, mind, and soul include what and how you eat.

For me, my daily meals should be of high quality and still simple and easy to prepare. Being a working mum of two it is also important that it doesn’t take long.

However when it comes to our family dishes, most of the time, I am very conscious and aware of what and how we eat!

Just recently I had some health problems and saw several people as I was looking for help and support. In one of my sessions, it was recommended that I start eating gluten-free for a while to give my larger intestines some rest. First I felt like something has been taken away from me. Now after a couple of weeks, I am tremendously grateful for this recommendation. I became more creative and we tried delicious dishes which I usually wouldn’t have chosen.

I now have way more energy, feel lighter and my health problems have almost disappeared!

HOWEVER, we all have to eat and we all want to feel at our best.

Every day we have the choice of how and what we eat. Including multiple options about where and what kind of groceries we buy. What a luxury!

This is an important to choice to make as the quality of our food is directly linked to how we feel and our health. What and how we eat is so important that I want to share with you 3 easy self-love practices that won’t take a lot of time.

Develop a nourishing self-care routine through nutrition. Because you are worth the best possible.

Be mindful of the quality of your food, where it comes from, how it is produced, and is it in season. The fresher- the better.

  • Try to buy organic, locally grown food - not packed in plastic if possible

  • Stay away from inflammatory, sugar-spiking, insulin-releasing foods like processed carbohydrates (think all added sugars and anything made with flour)

  • Aim for things that grow on plants or trees. The more colorful the fruits or vegetables, the more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants they have and the healthier they are.

How you eat has a huge effect on how the body is able to digest the food.

When you eat - try to be fully present. That way your body can digest better and takes the best out of the food.

Slow down while eating.

  • This leads to better digestion, better hydration, easier weight loss or maintenance, and greater satisfaction with our meals.

  • Before you start eating give thanks. You can give thanks to the farmers for growing the vegetables, to the people putting their energy in packing the food and offering it to you.

  • Smell and even feel your food if you like.

  • Put your phone and computer away. Talk less. Have a light and pleasant conversation.

It’s all connected. Everything is energy and with what kind of intention the food is prepared sets the tone!

  • Prepare your meals with love and care. If you don’t have the opportunity to get a healthy meal at work, take something with you.

  • You might want to cook a bit more the day before to save time.

  • When in a restaurant and I have the opportunity I love to see the kitchen and the way people are cooking. It gives me an insight into their relationship with food. Does the price reflect quality?

  • We intuitively know that if we eat a burger for € 2 the ingredients can’t be organic and the meat is most likely not a hormone and antibiotic-free piece of meat.

If this sounds difficult to you, approach it with ease and no pressure. Try to incorporate it 4 out of 3 days.

As always, it is of great benefit to ourselves and the planet if we choose sustainably and make smart choices! If you're thinking that good quality food is more expensive, well this might be true. But we spend so much on things we already have enough of. A new shirt here, a coffee to go there. But somehow the thought that food has to be cheap has manifested over the years.

I would rather have less stuff than poor quality food. I feel that way, I prioritize my health and the respect towards my body. I wish the same for you and your loved ones!

Thank YOU, gorgeous! I hope you’ve enjoyed these short but powerful tips on how to eat and choose what & how you eat mindful.

Remember, incorporate new routines and healthy lifestyle habits step by step, with ease and joy!
